Whether online or on campus, University of Wisconsin programs have a reputation for delivering world-class education and student support. Our accreditation is your assurance that you will graduate with skills that are relevant to your field and valued by employers. It also makes future credit transfers smoother and easier.
As a result of meeting the Healthcare Information and Management System Society’s (HIMSS) rigorous standards for quality health IT or healthcare education, the UW Health Information Management and Technology program has been named an Approved Education Partner and Academic Organizational Affiliate of HIMSS.
UW HIMT is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) at UW-Green Bay and UW-Parkside, with accreditation at UW-Stevens Point pending. Accreditation by CAHIIM is your assurance that our program meets the rigorous academic quality and competency standards established by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and CAHIIM. Completing a CAHIIM-accredited program qualifies you to sit for industry credentialing exams such as the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) offered by AHIMA.
All those interested in sitting for the RHIA (or other AHIMA credentials) should download and read the Candidate Guide. The Guide outlines all of the policies and procedures for registering for and scheduling your exam time. The Guide also details all of the requirements for eligibility that allow you to sit for each exam.
University of Wisconsin institutions offering the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and Technology are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Higher Learning Commission. The program has been approved by the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents.
