Capstone
In their final semester of the UW HIMT program, students are required to take HIMT 490, the capstone course. A student collaborates with faculty, a site preceptor, and other staff members as needed to design and complete a project at a real healthcare workplace. At the conclusion of the capstone, the student delivers a project to the host site to not only receive a grade, but also to gain hands-on work experience and add value to the host site.
Below is an archive of completed capstone projects to give you an idea of the types of opportunities available to our students as well as prospective capstone projects and a variety of current job openings. The search functionalities are set to allow you to look for management or technology-focused projects as well as the ability to search by project title, host site and by location (city or state). So if you are looking for a project that deals with HIPAA, simply set the filter defaults to “ALL”, Sort by “Project Title” and type HIPAA in the search field. All projects that are related to HIPAA will display. Same if you are looking for projects in a specific city or state. Type in the criteria you are looking for in the search field and go from there.
Students who are close to entering their Capstone semester are often those who are planning the next steps in their careers. Management and Technology jobs are featured. Also look for job boards associated with profesional organizations like HIMSS, AHIMA and HFMA.
Current job postings as well as links to current job boards from a variety of professional organizations will display.
